Study Details:
Higher education is investing substantial resources in IT to support teaching and learning. What is the return on the investment in equipment, applications, and training for faculty and students? And how much technology do students want?
The SIT Survey focuses on four major areas:
- Technological skills and access
- Experiences with e-learning and course management systems
- Expectations for support and training
- Satisfaction with using technology in teaching and learning
In 2006, ALT deployed a Student Information Technology (SIT) survey, based upon similar studies by ECAR and the University of Michigan. During Spring and Fall Semesters 2006, more than 14,000 students from all 35 USG institutions, participated in the online survey. Student responses to the USG SIT Survey will guide the USG in developing future online instruction and hybrid courses, as well as improving web-based student services and planning appropriate IT support and training. Administering such a survey among USG students allows for the establishment of similar baseline information on how USG students’ understanding and expectations in technological matters, both in their personal lives and in their academic careers, compare with national study data.
